Description
All three of the medical errors online interactive CME programs are approved for 2 AMA Category 1 CME credit(s)TM through the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine.

Preventing and Responding to Medical Errors includes two modules. The first module, Understanding Root Causes of Adverse Events, helps participants recognize root causes when they see medical errors and supports the development of a just culture for recognizing and managing errors and adverse events. The second module, Building Safer Systems, helps physicians build systems that improve patient safety by detecting and preventing medical errors.

The Human Side of Medical Errors is an engaging, case-based program that, among other things, teaches practicing clinicians how to respond to the emotional impact caused by an adverse outcome and how to share bad news with patients or families compassionately and effectively.

Using Systematic Procedures to Prevent Medical Errors teaches how to use standardized procedures and checklists to reduce medical errors, manage informed consent, and utilize rapid response teams.

Experience
Medical Directions, Inc. has collaborated with Dr. Hall and the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine to develop a series of online CME programs dealing with managing and preventing medical errors. MDI has marketed these programs since 2008. MDI has also collaborated with Dr. Hall to provide the online programs to residents and other University of Missouri trainees via a customized gateway to VLH.com. These modules have been used as part of the trainees' quality/safety curriculum, which is used for training interprofessional teams in the University of Missouri's Achieving Competence Today (ACT) program. The trainees have included fourth year medical students, medical residents, nursing students, and health care workers.

You can see these programs at The Virtual Lecture Hall®. Usage data, including satisfaction ratings and all comments, are publicly available.
